IVF in Cyprus

Last updated: January 2026

One island, two countries, two regulatory regimes, two price brackets. The Republic of Cyprus (south) is an EU member state with formal ART legislation. North Cyprus (TRNC) operates outside EU jurisdiction with looser rules and lower prices. Both offer anonymous egg donation. Both treat international patients. Understanding which side you’re on matters more here than in any other fertility destination.

The Split

Republic of Cyprus (South)

EU member. Governed by Law 69(I)/2015, the first consolidated MAR legislation in the country. This means EU tissue and cell directives apply. Clinics are licensed by the Council for Medically Assisted Reproduction. Egg donation is legal, strictly anonymous, and altruistic (donors compensated only for expenses). Maximum recipient age: 50, with exceptions by committee approval.

Key clinics: Pedieos IVF Center (Nicosia, founded 1986, CAP and FDA accredited), Genesis Clinic (Limassol, in-house genetics lab, ISO/CAP certified, offers a money-back guarantee programme), Cryos IVF Clinic (Nicosia, affiliated with Cryos International sperm bank).

North Cyprus (TRNC)

Not recognised by the EU or any country except Turkey. Governed by its own legislation (Law 57/2014, Regulation 381-2016). The TRNC Ministry of Health licenses clinics and conducts annual unannounced inspections. But there is no HFEA-equivalent regulator, no EU directive compliance requirement, and limited legal recourse under international law if something goes wrong.

What you get in exchange: lower prices, higher age limits (patients treated up to 55 subject to assessment), and a more permissive approach. North Cyprus has historically been the destination for patients seeking treatments restricted in their home countries.

Key clinics: Dunya IVF (Kyrenia), EuroCARE IVF (Nicosia), North Cyprus IVF Centre (Dr. Savas Ozyigit), Cyprus IVF Hospital (Famagusta), Team Miracle / Cyprus IVF Centre.

Who Goes to Cyprus

Data from Cyprus IVF Hospital (North Cyprus, 2022) shows the patient mix:

Country% of patients
UK & Ireland24%
Germany18%
Turkey12%
Iraq12%
Kosovo10%
USA6%
Switzerland3%
Israel2%

In 2023, Cyprus IVF Hospital performed 475 treatment cycles. 304 (64%) were egg donation. This ratio tells the story: most international patients come to Cyprus specifically for donor eggs.

Why UK patients choose Cyprus: Donor anonymity (the UK removed anonymous donation in 2005), lower cost (50-70% less than UK private clinics), higher age limits, and 4.5-hour flights from London. North Cyprus clinics like EuroCARE and Team Miracle specifically target British patients with English-language websites and UK patient coordinators.

What to Watch Out For

Getting There

Larnaca Airport (LCA) serves the Republic of Cyprus. Ercan Airport (ECN) serves North Cyprus (flights via Turkey only, since no country other than Turkey recognises the TRNC). UK patients going to North Cyprus clinics typically fly to Larnaca and cross by land, or fly to Ercan via Istanbul.

Budget 5-7 nights. North Cyprus accommodation is cheap: EUR 30-60/night for a decent hotel. South Cyprus runs EUR 60-120. Nicosia straddles both sides, so if your clinic is in Nicosia you have flexibility.
